A Home Tour to Cure T1D

The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA) is pleased to announce it has chosen the Kansas City chapter of JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) as its charitable partner in collaboration with the 2020 Artisan Home Tour. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Some 1.25 million Americans are living with T1D, including about 200,000 youth (less than 20 years old) and more than 1 million adults (20 years old and older).

“The Artisan Committee felt the tour could be a strong platform to support another local organization’s cause,” said Scott Bickford, chairman of the 2020 Artisan Home Tour Committee. “The daughter of one of our Artisan builders has type 1 diabetes so to be able to support JDRF as it searches for a cure for the disease felt like the right thing to do.”

JDRF youth ambassadors will follow each home’s construction process and share their stories on social media throughout the process. The KCHBA is hosting a launch party on Oct. 23 where each builder will be paired with a youth ambassador and begin the journey as partners raising awareness about type 1 diabetes and learning about the home-building process.

“The JDRF Kansas City Chapter is thrilled to be partnering with the Home Builders Association on the 2020 Artisan Home Tour,” said Sherri Lozano, executive director of the JDRF in Kansas City. “It is an incredible opportunity to help us share our mission of improving lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications with more people in our community.”

The 2020 Artisan Home Tour will be the first three weekends in June 2020: June 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21. Presented by Ferguson Enterprises, the tour will feature seven homes built by some of Kansas City’s finest custom home builders and showcase the impeccable qualities of their one-of-a-kind homes.

A portion of all ticket sales will benefit JDRF and its research. Advance purchase of tickets to view all seven homes will cost $30 and tickets purchased at a home once the tour begins will cost $35. A ticket to view individual homes will also be available for $10 each. Tickets to tour the homes will be available online at www.artisanhometourkc.org beginning spring 2020. Artisan Tour homes will be open from noon until 7 p.m. and are located throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
